Adaqua’s trip to Melbourne
by steamtug on Jan.17, 2010, under Adaqua
We finally got away from it all and set our course for the 5 hour journey to Melbourne. The sea was a bit rough, but I promised the crew that the wind would go after the sun set. I was wrong! The gale force winds kept up all the way and sailing into the darkness late at night was interesting for me but scarey for the crew. Once we turned for our final heading into Melbourne the 2 metre waves were hitting us side on. We rocked and rolled so much, I nearly broke my bottle of scotch as it rolled around the cabin.
Now that we are here, the wind is still blowing. But we are enjoying a holiday in the city with lots to see and do. We shall head back across to Portarlington in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Catchya…. Mark.
Latest update! The wind was still blowing, but seeing a small hole in the windy weather I started the engine, slipped the ropes and while the crew were all still asleep left the harbour. Once out in the sea, the waves rolled us a bit until the crew all threatened a mutinee if I did not turn back. So I turned around and dropped them at the railway station, then headed out again at 1pm. The wind had picked up again, but I didn’t care!!!! Adaqua and I punched through the big waves with AC/DC blaring full bore on the music system. I was really enjoying myself and nobody complained it was too rough, or the music was too loud etc etc. I even sat for a while on the roof and watched the bow smash down into the next wave. I reckon I have rattled every nut and bolt in her, but we both had a great trip arriving in Portarlington 4 hours later. I rewarded myself with a cold beer and baked beans for tea!!! Yipee…
