Happy Birthday Riley!
by steamtug on May.09, 2010, under General
It’s beem a very busy week… what with work and things at home that have been neglected since I have had little time to do anything there. And this weekend it was Riley’s 16th birthday. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY RILEY! Riley chose a Japanese Restaurant for dinner, then we all came back to our place for a few beers by the fire.
The Old Triumph is going!
Other things that have happened since my last writtings, was sorting out the old Triumph motorcycle. After coming home from the British bike rally, I tested the battery and found it completely flat. I pulled it out, and after being charged for 2 days, the voltage had come up to 2 volts! So a new battery was installed and the bike is flying again! (At least until the next time I want to go somewhere far…)
Beer brewing: I made my first grain beer!
And, I have finally made my first beer using grain. It’s a bold step and very fiddly and time consuming. After reading lots on the internet, and getting some advice from friends, I sourced some crushed barley. But the volumes I needed where not going to be easy. I had to make the mash containing 3 kilograms of crushed barley and hold it at 66 degrees C for 1 hour. How was I going to do this? Well I cleverly used my esky (cooler box) which is big and insulated to make the mash in. Plus some big pots from the kitchen. It made a big sticky mess but it is done now, and I just checked the fermenter which is making happy girgling noises in the garage.
I will write a more detailed report about this in the homebrewing section of this blog. See the tab for this on the top right of this page. I also wrote stuff about steamtugs recently, so check the menu of things up the top right to see what there is.
Go Cats! I went to the footy today…
My Auntie had to work today, so she gave me her tickets for the footy. Geelong played against Sydney and everyone thought it would be a tough game because our star ruckman was out injured this week. Well it was a tightly fought game for the first half with Geelong leading all day, but they went crazy in the second half and won the game by 11 goals! Go cats! They certainly looked like a star side, and they are still the reigning premiers, so they should be good. It was a great game. Go Cats!!!

Hi Mark!
It’s funny but I have seen the same game here in Sakhalin via ABC!! I’d rather spent more time with watching if have known that my Aussie friend somewhere in the field!
But all related to this game still riddle form me growing up on soccer. When score come to more then 100 points I have lost my interest. Sorry.
However, my friend loves it, so: “Go Cats! Go!”
Regarding to home-brew, mate. I’m eagerly wanted to test your staff!!! Well-done! Excellent propagation of bootleggers history!!
