The Russians are coming!

by on Feb.24, 2011, under General

I had a visit from my Russian mate the other day. Jenya worked with me in Russia, and he is also the one with whom I drove a car across Russia with! (See the link to “travel diaries” at the top of this page, and look down the bottom of the page) It’s the second time he has been here!  He was supposed to be here last week, but being the adventure freak he is, decided to start in Perth and drive a car up the north-west coast and back. Unfortunately for him, 2 cyclones hit the region and his car became a small house on a small island!!! (Lol..)

During this travel, he told me he found a man sitting by a camp fire in the middle of nowhere surrounded by desert with 2 camels. Evgeny shared the fire with him for a short time, and the man was a French tourist who was travelling across the desert by camel!!! Talk about an adventure!!!
I had arranged to have the Saturday night off work so we could play up together, but he didn’t get here until Monday morning. I worked my normal nightshift Sunday night, then picked him up from the train station early Monday morning. After a little sleep, we went on a sightseeing trip to the big city Melbourne.

We did the normal things, Flinders Street station, Federation square, then we hung around the casino and watched Mitchell (my son) play his system against the roulette wheel. (He did make a small profit, about enough to buy his dinner!!!) We also found a small laneway which was totally decorated with graffiti. (Done legally) There was even some Russian graffiti which impressed us both! I had loaded up my beer fridge with Baltica Beer from Russia I had especially sourced, but was disappointed to find Evgeny was on a soul purifying mission, and not drinking any beer. Oh well, I guess I will drink it myself!
