The Steamtug Blog

About Me!

Hello there from MARK!

I was born many years ago in Geelong, Victoria  and have worked for Shell Refining Australia for the past 25 years.

When I was younger, I got the travel bug after back packing around the United Kingdom. Then when Shell asked me if I would do an assignment overseas, they sent me to Nigeria in Western Africa, and Sakhalin in the Russian Far East.

How did I get here?

My eldest son has just finished his secondary education and thinks he can fund his favourite hobby, flying aeroplanes by making web pages for people. He has done some amazing things for his clients and a link to his business page is below if you need a web page. He then suggested that since I have written some good stories over the years, that I make this blog as a place to keep some of them and encourage me to write more drivle! There is also a link to the blood bank. I am a regular blood donor and encourage others to give some of their time to donate blood, especially since my father-in-law was diagnosed with leukemia. If you can’t give blood, giving plasma is an alternative which has minimal impact on you because they give you back your red blood cells. I hardly notice any difference after giving plasma!

What am I doing now?

Currently I am back working in Geelong, but sick of working for a living, so decided to take 3 months leave from work to relax and do some boating, diving, bike riding, playing with steam engines and making beer! For these are the things in life I like to do the most, and share these experiences with my many friends!
