I have had to spend some time in the 4th biggest city in the USA, Houston. I have been part of the plant design review team who are still working out how everything is going to work in our new plant we are going to construct. So while in Houston, I got to catch a ball game… Baseball, it’s just not cricket! The Houston Astro’s were playing the Los Angeles Angels. Although we lost (me being such a big Astro’s fan…) it was a great experience to see a real live ball game.

Houston traffic is renown for being crazy, so we planned ahead and got there in plenty of time. 4 beers in the pub across the road, as the Australian tradition would be if this was a cricket game. Then over to the stadium. It’s all enclosed with air conditioning! And they have a plastic looking steam train mounted on a track above the ground which goes back and forward each time they hit a home run.

The next day, we had a competition to win tickets to the football game. They shouldn’t be allowed to call it footy, because they hardly ever kick it! Anyway, I was away from my office in Houston, and wore my Geelong footy jumper. They all looked at me like I had 2 heads… and could not understand what footy was. “Is it soccer?” no…. its not soccer. “Is it rugby?” no.. its footy! They dont understand. In fact the grand final is on this weekend, and nobody knows anything about it. Even with all the sports channels on TV, they don’t have the grand final on anywhere. Its impossible to see it! Anyway, how did I go with the footy tickets? Well I sent my photo to my office in Louisiana to prove I was wearing it, and I got drawn out in the raffle and won the footy tickets! Then somebody complained that my jumper was not real footy, and they disqualified me! Damn….  Seeeeeeeya
